This spring for the first time in my life I went to Lake Tahoe and it was worth waiting sixteen years for. Although the trip began on a sour note it was definitely the best family vacation I have ever been on. When we finally got to the David Wally’s Hot Spring Resort (after getting lost and eating at a shabby Chinese buffet), we realized that our room did not have running water. So we were transferred to a different room, only to find out the heater in the other room was stuck on high. To cope with this minor dilemma we opened all the windows and the sliding glass door. The next morning our adventure began.
Wanting to see the lake from the highest view possible, we rode the Heavenly Ski Resort Gondolas up Heavenly Mountain. It was gorgeous the whole mountain was covered in the fluffiest snow I have ever seen. On the way up the gondolas my mom swore she saw bear tracks. At the top of the hill we ate a small lunch and drank hot coco to warm up. Once were back down the mountain we went and explored the South Lake Tahoe Visitor’s Center. Harvey’s Hotel was across the street from the visitor’s center so we walked around their casino (my mom later went back there without me and my sister). After that we went to various peers and points keeping one mission in mind: to see the lake from every angle possible. The lake itself was gleaming and majestic. We drove halfway around the lake before deciding that it was getting late and time to head back to the resort.
Once we got back to resort and endured another night of overheating we woke bright and early to see the sunrise and hike around the resort. There was a turtle pound that we stopped at to see how many turtles we could count (eleven). Then we went to put our hands in the hot spring, which felt like warm bath water. Our mission to explore Lake Tahoe continued after that because my mom drove us to Zephyr Cove were we hiked for most of the day climbing rocks and reading the posted signs. The whole family was so tired from hiking that my mom let us see a movie to relax while she went to gamble. When the movie was over we walked around a shopping center for tourist and bought souvenirs (including a very cute keychain). That was our last night there, but that by no means meant on adventure was over.
The next morning we packed up and took the scenic root home, driving along Highway 89. We stopped and took pictures at Truckee River and other little spots. During our last stop the car got stuck and my mom almost had a panic attack, but we figured out how to get out of the spot eventually. Part of me never wanted to leave that spot, because I did not want to leave the beauty of Lake Tahoe.
