“May I take your order?” said the waitress politely “I’ll have General Tso’s chicken with fried rice” Is something my brother and I said almost every evening when we were in Washington D.C.
It’s one of our favorite dishes. My brother, my dad, and I stayed in Washington D.C. for one week. I wouldn’t say it’s the most exciting and exhilarating place I’ve ever been to, but we did have fun. From about three o’clock in the afternoon to five o’clock in the afternoon, Chinatown was our favorite hotspot in Washington D.C. Chinatown was where we ate some of the yummiest foods, like General Tso’s chicken, curry noodles, and pork dumplings.

And for dessert we’d have bobba tea, which is delicious flavored tea with little jelly rice balls in it, that is fun to chew while drinking the tea. There were many flavors of tea, like mango, strawberry, green tea, orange, and much more. Also for dessert, there were scrumptious Chinese pastries. My favorite pastry there was called wife cake, it is a pastry made out of winter melon, and it’s soft and flaky. After our daily visit to Chinatown, we’d head back to the hotel on the super amazing underground subway. To a lot of people, subways aren’t a big deal, but since I live in Florida (where there isn’t any underground anything), I enjoyed riding the subway every time we took it, in Washington D.C. When we got back to our hotel at night time, we’d rest in the room. We stayed at Homewood Suites by Hilton. The amazing thing about our hotel was that it had complimentary breakfast and dinner. So if we got hungry again, we would just hop on the elevator downstairs to the free dinner. The dinner was good food too, it wasn’t like a piece of bread and cheese, there was tacos and fajitas one night, roasted chicken and rice one other night, and grilled buffalo sauced chicken wings another night. Plus the food was buffet style; it wasn’t like one plate per guest. There isn’t much nightlife in Washington D.C.
In the morning, we skipped right downstairs for the complimentary breakfast which usually contained eggs, bacon (or sausage), toast, bagels, baby tomatoes, and donuts. We filled our bellies with the enticing food and were off to start our day. Our mornings there usually began with us catching a ride on the subway to a Smithsonian Institution museum. In Washington D.C. we went to very many museums, about six in total. We went to the Smithsonian museum of art, the Smithsonian museum of American Indian Art, the Smithsonian museum of natural history, and more. The museums were a great way to escape from the heat, (there was a heat wave there at the time I was visiting). One day we went to the Smithsonian Zoo, it was a nice zoo, but I didn’t think it was much compared to the zoos in Florida because the Florida zoos have more much more exotic animals and plants. But one thing about that zoo was that there was an actual live Panda Bear! Panda Bears are close to extinction, and I thought it was very impressive to see a living one in real life.
Another day we went to take pictures of the White House, where the president lives. That was a big mistake, because it was really hot outside and we couldn’t get anywhere near the white house because of its tight security, not to mention the police guarding the white house weren’t very friendly or nice. Actually, I felt they were rude and pushy.
