My best travel vacation would have to be when my family and I visited Phuket, Thailand. I’m blessed to have been to many different places. This is because my family and I love to travel and experience new cultures and especially try new foods! We have been to different states in the America and other countries such as California, Washington, Hawaii, New York, Washington D.C, Philippines, and Thailand. Through all these travels I have experienced many different cultures. I am originally from the Philippines and moved to the U.S. ten years ago. Being a Filipino-American helps me to appreciate different cultures and not be afraid to give them a try.

My favorite place that my family and I have ventured to is Thailand. As soon as we landed in Bangkok, we then proceed in a smaller airplane to Phuket. Here we stayed at a wonderful beach resort. From the moment I stepped out of the shuttle and onto the marble floor of our resort I felt like I stepped into a magazine! They greeted us with leis and a frizzy drink that had mint leaves- virgin mojito they said. While my parents were checking-in, my sisters and I checked out the place. It was so magnificent! The lobby area wasn’t enclosed so you could feel the cold night breeze sweep in, and there were many fountains with many figures and statues. Finally, a golf cart drove us to our hotel room.  Our room was wonderful! It had two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room space. The room that my parents were had the biggest tub I’ve ever seen! It was already filled with bubbles and rose petals! Tired from our trip, my sisters decided to put on our bathing suits and jump right in! From that moment on I knew that this was going to be the best week of my life!

Having a week in this paradise gave my family and I time to be together and experience a new culture. Our first exciting excursions was sightseeing Phuket on an elephant! Here we saw many beautiful views. It ranged from city buildings to beautiful mountain ranges! Even though being on an elephant and being so high up made me nervous it was an experience of a life time!

When the day came to explore the caves of Thailand, we set out on a boat and drifted into the vast ocean. Once we arrived at the caves our tour guide said to climb out of the boat where a three person kayak awaited us. While on the kayak our tour guide handed us a flash light and instructed us to follow everything he says. Paddling into the cave, was breath taking! We saw bats and different creatures that I haven’t seen before. Things got exciting when the caves got narrower and darker. The only light we had to guide us was illuminating from our small flash light. Suddenly, we were enveloped in darkness. Scared I grabbed on to my sister, the guide said that everything was going to be okay as long as we duck and try not to move. He courageously felt his way out of the cave till we reached sunlight.  Relieved and awed, I was amazed by the lagoon.  It was magnificent. We were inside the island and the beautiful lagoon was filled with exotic birds and native plants.

After this amazing trip we headed back and enjoyed our resort. The experience was unforgettable and opened my dreams to travel! Thankful to Thailand I now have a new look into the world’s destinations!
