The Melting Pot - My Family Travels

I live in a town most people are not familiar with, or if they are familiar with it, there is nothing but hurtful words that escape their mouth. If people would take just one, maybe two hours of their day to visit it, they would see that this place is much more than trouble waiting to happen.

A walk through our high school, middle school and elementary schools can change someone’s opinion in seconds. Not just because they are newly built and flattering to the eye, but because of the accomplishments they have achieved. Whitehall Yearling High School has many different programs including The Peer Education Team which I am a member of. This program helps prevent the spread of teen pregnancy and lifts young women’s self esteem to ensure their happiness. This is just one of the many programs the high school has and no need to brag but if I continued, this essay would exceed beyond six hundred words.

The best time to visit Whitehall is during the summer months where there are lots of exciting local events to attend. For example, National Night Out Day. This is a day where the entire community comes together and enjoys music, food, face painting and so much more. The night is filled with nothing but friendliness, laughs and fun. It shows outside people who know nothing about Whitehall that we are a community that accepts everyone and together we are unstoppable. Whitehall, Ohio is filled with many different people. Every turn there are different religions, races, ideas and music. You can definitely say that our community has a variety of cultural backgrounds. Living with so much diversity makes everyone who lives here understand the world. It has opened my eyes and it’s been great being able to experience different cultures and foods and music. I have learned about different parts of Africa such as Ethiopia, different parts of India such as Mumbai and so many more different parts of the world.

When someone visits Whitehall, I want them to experience what I have experienced. If they don’t feel as if they have explored the entire world then their time here was not worthwhile. This community might have some ups and downs that create a bad impression for someone but doesn’t every community have their problems? What makes Whitehall so distinctive is that we embrace our adversity and turn them into positives. We don’t let people’s opinions change who we are. Whitehall, Ohio is a perfect example of the melting pot that we call America. It is proudly where I am from and could not be happier
