The Best Spanish Destinations to Visit as a Family - My Family Travels

Spain is the perfect vacation destination for families. The country has a wide range to offer, including an incredible culture to immerse yourself and your family in. While Spain is a great country to visit all year round, a visit during the quieter months comes with its perks for families.

Places are a lot less busy. The UV rating (sun strength) and humidity are much lower, which makes a more comfortable experience for touring Spain with kids. This article is going to take a look at some of family-friendly off-season destinations in Spain during October. 

Castellon de la Plana

Located along Costa del Azahar, Castellon de la Plana offers a mixture of Spanish culture and a coastal holiday. The beautiful beaches are perfect for families, offering something for everyone. While the temperature is cooler, it’s still warm enough to enjoy the beach and swimming in the ocean. Whether you want to relax under the sun on the sand, build sandcastles or grab a snorkel and explore what wildlife is under the water, there are even water sports activities for families to get involved with. 

The city itself comes with a lot of history and tells interesting stories about its past, as well as its culture. Visiting some of the stunning landmarks such as the Santa María Cathedral and the medieval Castle of Fadrell is the perfect way for your kids to experience and learn about the history of Castellon de la Plana. But don’t forget, one of the best ways to teach your kids about the Spanish culture is through the cuisine. Castellon de la Plana is known for its delicious and fresh seafood as its traditional Valencian paella. This is a destination that offers the perfect mix for any family. 

Can Picafort

This is the perfect island adventure for any family to create long lasting memories. Can Picafort is located on the northern coast of the beautiful Balearic island of Mallorca. Many visitors of this destination enjoy the laid back lifestyle and atmosphere. Playa de Can Picafort is a stunning beach with soft sand and shallow water. This makes it the perfect location for playing in the sand and casual swims in the sea. The shallow and calm water also creates a sense of security for parents, giving them the chance to relax and enjoy the beach too. There are also a number of restaurants and cafes to try out all the incredible cuisine that Mallorca has to offer.

However, Can Picafort is more than just a beach. S’Albufera Natural Park is the perfect place for a day trip. You can explore the beautiful park and sport wildlife. In particular, S’Albufera Natural Park is famous for birdwatching. This is a great way to experience some of the incredible wildlife that Mallorca has to offer. 

Alcúdia

Another gorgeous destination of the stunning island of Mallorca, and not too far away from Can Picafort is Alcúdia. This is a great destination for any family looking to learn more about the history of the island. The Roman ruins of Pollentia provide an insight into the island’s past, where you are able to see the well-preserved mosaics and artifacts. Alcúdia also has beautiful beaches to offer. Playa de Alcúdia in particular is great for families. There’s a wide range of water sports and activities for families to enjoy together.

Cala d’Or

This is another Mallorcan beauty, but located on the other side of the island on the southeastern coast. Cala d’Or is known for its pristine beaches. In particular, Cala Gran and Cala Ferrera are perfect for families, with soft sands and shallow waters perfect for little ones to paddle in safely. For some fun for the adults or older kids, there are kayak and paddleboard rentals where you can explore some of the hidden caves along the coastline. The village itself offers a wide range of shops, restaurants and cafes. This is a great place to sample some of the incredible cuisine that Cala d’Or has to offer, as well as a great place for ice cream and souvenir shopping. 

Cambrils

Back over to mainland Spain, Cambrils is located on the Costa Dorada. There are a number of different attractions in Cambrils for families to explore. Head down to the fishing port to see the fishermen in action, and of course, don’t forget to sample some in one of the many restaurants on the waterfront. There are a number of different sights in the town that are perfect for families. Explore the Torre del Port tower or have a wander around the local market. The Playa del Regueral is famous for its golden sand, but also calm waters that are perfect for swimming in. 

Visit Spain with Kids 

In summary, there are a number of different options when it comes to visiting Spain with kids. During October, these are just five destinations to visit as a family where you can make long lasting memories. With the still warm, but lower temperatures, UV rating and humidity, it’s the perfect time to visit, especially with children. When you visit Spain with children off season, it provides a more enjoyable and comfortable experience for them.
