Wondering where the locals go for an affordable yet memorable Europe family vacation? To save time and money, we know it’s worth planning a trip to a place that’s popular with local travelers with children. That way, facilities, rental accommodations, restaurants and attractions are ready to meet your needs.
For some, traveling with a child throughout Europe can equate to a huge challenge. For other families, it can be the journey of a lifetime. Of course, you want to plan a truly memorable Europe family vacation for every member of the family. It doesn’t have to include London, Paris and Rome which most international travelers visit. Your European holiday can focus on the outdoors at off the beaten path destinations.
Whether a lesser known corner of Ireland, Wales, Finland, Austria or Germany appeal for your summer holiday, we’ve got some ideas.

At these five sites, you will have the best time with your little ones. Take the time, too, to gaze upon some natural and architectural beauty with your spouse. That way, we can guarantee romance for you two and fun for your children!
The Ring of Kerry
If you are willing to travel with children and not just spend your whole time in a hotel sunbathing or something, one of the best routes to take is the Ring of Kerry in Ireland. About 180 km of road, stretching throughout the most beautiful areas of Ireland, it will allow the family a quiet but very meaningful trip. You can visit the ancient Celtic forts, admire the unique nature of Ireland, stop to have a picnic with the family and, ultimately, gaze upon one of the world’s most beautiful coastal sceneries.
Skomer Island
South West Wales’ Skomer Island also falls into the category of the most family-friendly European family vacations you can take. To the question – why? There is only one answer – unique nature and a huge variety of flowers! The sea, cliffs, breathtaking landscapes and outcrops will take you and your kids’ breath away. On the island, you will see a lot of birds. In fact, the government declared the island a national nature reserve. Here, seabird nesting sites are strictly protected.
Aland
In Finland, you can find the Aland archipelago – one of the most popular European family destinations for both local and tourist families. Finlanders inhabit 80 of the Aland Islands, though they consist of almost 6,500 islands. Enjoy breaktaking views in this particular corner of the world. It’s a stunning destination with temperate weather for the better part of the year. This destination is recommended for those who wish to spend a lot of time outdoors, getting to know the exceptional landscape.

Vorarlberg
Austria can offer idyllic scenery for a traveling family too. Vorarlberg is the perfect choice for those who still do not know what to expect from a holiday. It is full of a variety of entertainment, including a summer music festival on a floating stage in Lake Constance. Your stay there will definitely meet the expectations of everyone for a Europe family vacation.
There are quiet places to sit and have a picnic, museums, historical monuments, cozy cafés, impressive streets to wander around, and the fabulous amusement park called Alpine Coaster Golm. Families are also advised to stop at Adlerwarte observatory where children will have the opportunity to get acquainted with unique wilderness.
Black Forest
The Black Forest, also known as the Schwarzwald, is a spectacular natural site in southwestern Germany. It is very popular for Europe family vacations from neighboring countries. Avoid the crowds in this sparsely populated region. The 160km park is actually one of the most visited German forests. The Gutach River — a huge waterfall, 500 meters high — impresses all kids. Reread “Hansel and Gretel” before your visit. The Brothers Grimm mentioned this forest in their loved children’s books.
