The Grand Prize – 4 Night/5 Day Vacation for Family of 4 in San Antonio, Texas
Contest Winners will stay at the Westin La Cantera Resort; it's the ultimate blend of recreation and luxury, with six pools, three hot tubs, health club and spa services, tennis courts, delightful dining and a kids club. The hotel is set atop one of the highest points in all of San Antonio. Winners can cast their gaze upon the breathtaking Texas Hill Country: an endless expanse of majestic Live Oak groves interrupted only by creamy white limestone outcroppings and emerald fairways. The resort’s luxury golf courses include the 18-hole championship Resort Course at La Cantera designed by noted golf course architect Jay Morrish and PGA Tour professional Tom Weiskopf and The Palmer Course designed by the master himself, Arnold Palmer.
Winners are promised an adrenaline rush at Six Flags Fiesta Texas on Goliath, one of the park’s thrilling roller coasters, racing at speeds of over 50 mph. The tikes in your group can soar through the air on ZoomJets or hop on Buckarooz for a bouncing adventure. The White Water Bay waterpark contains rides such as Big Bender, which delivers plummeting dips, dark twisting tunnels and refreshing waterfalls, as well as a 50-foot drop. There’s more water in store at Sea World San Antonio on The Great White — Texas' first inverted steel roller coaster — along with other rides such as the Steel Eel, or the Journey to Atlantis: half roller coaster, half water ride. Sea World also boasts a host of other marine life, from Shamu to dolphins, sharks, seals, sea lions and much more.
Winners will explore their "wild side" at the San Antonio Zoo, which is ranked as one of the best zoos in the nation. More than 3,500 animals in 600 species live within the Zoo’s 35 acres, in exhibits such as Kronkosky's Tiny Tot Nature Spot, a magnificent mini-zoo designed specifically for children under 5; the Butterflies! Caterpillar Flight School, a lush tropical habitat surrounded by hundreds of butterflies (open March – Nov); the Fun Farm Petting Zoo where everyone can pet African Pygmy goats; and Lory Landing, a rainbow of colorful birds flying about the canopy of an outdoor aviary, occasionally landing on visitors.
Wind down and catch up on Texas history. The Witte Museum focuses on South Texas history, science, and water resources, with an extensive permanent collection featuring historic artifacts and photographs, Texas art, textiles, the world-renowned Hertzberg Circus Collection, dinosaur bones, cave drawings, Texas wildlife dioramas and the four-story H-E-B Science Treehouse.
The Buckhorn Museum has a Wax Museum of Texas history among its exotic collections of horns, cowboy memorabilia and fish from the Seven Seas. There’s also an authentic shooting gallery and arcade, as well as a Curio Store, with extraordinary Texas collectibles and authentic Buckhorn souvenirs for the entire family.
The San AntonioBotanical Garden, which features a serene native forest walk, exotic plant specimens from around the world, modernistic glass pyramids and even an authentic log cabin, is a 33-acre respite from the city. The futuristic Lucile Halsell Conservatory has plants from around the world displayed in the Exhibit Room, Desert Pavilion, Tropical Forest Room, Palm House and Fern Grotto. The Aquatic Garden Pool is the central feature of the Conservatory Courtyard, and the historic Carriage House includes the gift shop and restaurant.
Orient yourselves by land or sea. The open-top, double decker tour of the city, courtesy of City Sightseeing San Antonio, is a hop-on, hop-off service beginning every 30-60 minutes from Alamo Plaza, Market Square, HemisFair Park and six other central locations. There is an onboard commentary and a great view! Winners will see San Antonio from an entirely different perspective on a River Cruising Barge, an exciting and entertaining narrative of the rich history of the San Antonio River, courtesy of Rio San Antonio. Cruises are about 35 minutes long and cover 1 1/2 miles of the beautiful San Antonio River Walk.
Kids and adults alike love the San Antonio Children’s Museum, which offers more than 80 interactive exhibits, including the H-E-B Kids' Market, a bubble ranch, a kid-powered elevator, and weekly science and arts activities for children ages 2 to 10.
A must for any visitor to the city of San Antonio is the San Antonio Visitors Experience – or S.A.V.E. for short. The program offers visitors big discounts on San Antonio’s top attractions, hotels and shopping. S.A.V.E. participants can choose from over 40 hotels and resorts and receive discounts on over 20 popular attractions. In addition, many of San Antonio’s most notable attractions are free to the public including the Alamo and the city’s four other Spanish colonial missions.
