The Great City of Oklahoma City by Kyara Little - My Family Travels

The best places in the world to visit are often the small towns, cities that people have never heard of. Maybe it’s heard of, but not very popular. These places contain a ton of pride and love for their community, state and nation. Oklahoma City is a great example of this description. It is a great place to visit it has a beautiful scenery whether in the cities, or in the peaceful countryside’s. Oklahoma City has grown so much within the last five to ten years and has great potential to grown even more. The citizens there offer so much love and hospitality to tourists and new additions that it may be too much to receive all at one time.

There are so many attractions that would grasp the interest of tourist that set foot on Oklahoma City ground. Bricktown is generally one of the places that people always hear about and wonder what is so special about it. Well it is one of the liveliest places to be when the sun is setting and going down. The way the city lights up is spectacular. Even when passing through the newest accent to bricktown is our state bird, the scissor tale statue right over a bridge that transfers colors. Even the waterfall that sits outside Harkins Movie Theatre is extravagant. The boat rides that are offered give the best glimpse of the area.

Many cultural traditions that were started long ago have carried on and still run strong today. In 1889 when the Oklahoma City Land Run took place, many of the people that jumped the gun were named Boomer Sooners, and that is how the University of Oklahoma developed their mascot. And many fourth graders state wide still dress up and practice the Oklahoma land run today. In the town of Guthrie, Oklahoma a parade is hosted as a celebration. The Murrah Bombing Memorial is a sentimental piece of Oklahoma City. The people that were affected by this tragedy could have very well could have made changes in this world. Many historical court cases even took place in Oklahoma City such as the Ada Lois Sipuel vs. the University of Oklahoma. Clara Luper organized many Sit-ins in Oklahoma City during the Civil Rights. Sports in Oklahoma City are a huge ordeal. Oklahoma City Thunder basketball is a great experience to be a part of. The love the entire city can be felt right inside of the Chesapeake Area on Game Night. The Thunder expresses so much love towards our communities and we Oklahoma love to return the love and support. Football is another sport that is huge state wide. Something that starts for little boys as toddlers, those carriers with them through high school and college. Football season is one of the liveliest seasons to be in Oklahoma.

With every Hospitality State, there is some great home cooking that follows. Many citizens of Oklahoma City have opened up their own restaurants to spread this tasty home cooking. Casey’s Catfish has the best fish in town. Mama E’s and Family Affair are soul food buffets. But BoBo’s Chicken, is the best place to chicken and hang out after a sporting event on the weekends. People should also attempt horseback riding in Oklahoma, it’s fun and is a huge part of Oklahoma Culture.

Oklahoma is full of things that people grow to love for this state. Whether it’s in the city or in the country, everyone could find a way to fit in the Oklahoma traditions. The weather will have to be an adjustment, but that makes this state so exhilarating.
