My favorite vacation took place in August of 2006. My family, along with three other families, spent the week at Lake Mead, where we found an island to set up camp and spent our days on the lake. We had a blast going out on the boat, swimming, water-skiing, or in my particular case, falling flat on my face as I attempted to water-ski. That week was one of the most memorable of my life. We did all sorts of fun things, from jumping off rocks into the water to hanging on to an inter tube for dear life as we rocketed across the lake behind the boat. We all found our own unique ways to entertain ourselves, like Andrew’s various attempts and techniques to catch a fish, my sister’s castle of shells, and Matthew’s never-ending attempt to beat my dad at wrestling. When we explored the area around our camp, we found an abandoned, grounded sail boat that we climbed aboard.  We spent hours playing in the water and having fun, and thankfully my mom had planned for every possible contingency, be it a broken leg or a meteor strike, so we could rest assured that anything we could ever need was readily available.

However, our fun times at the lake were soon to be cut short. On our last, beautiful day, it suddenly started to rain. And the wind started to blow, and waves began crashing onto the shore, rocking the boats dangerously close to each other. As we waded out into the water to try and steady the boats, the moms assumed the worst and began packing up. Their fears were soon realized when we saw the flash of lightening and the following crack of thunder. It was defiantly time to get back to the dock. We quickly loaded up the two boats with all of our stuff, and set out back across the lake. Hugging the shore line, we carefully watched the lightening, hoping that it would stay well away from us. We made it back to the dock in one piece with no problems, although the story would remain fun to tell, especially when I spiced it up to include lightening striking within me centimeters of me. And so this vacation experience has remained one of the most memorable and exciting of my life, and the storm was quite a nice way to end the week with a bang.
