Bahama Missions - My Family Travels

Through hard work, perseverance, passion, and accepted understanding, I have helped to change other people’s lives, while shaping my own. Before entering high school I began to go on mission trips, and can truly say that they have helped me to become the person that I am today. The life skills I have obtained from going on these trips shine through everyday in my kind-hearted spirit, work ethic, and determination to succeed.I have been on a total of four mission trips, each one unique in its own way: different locations, different tasks for us to complete, and each with a new set of benevolent homeowners. My most recent trip was to All Saints AIDS Camp in the Bahamas. Never have I seen such a poverty stricken area, yet I have never met more blithe people in my life.  At the camp there were stray animals on every corner, the sidewalks were a path of destruction, and the one-bedroom shacks that the residents lived in were all factors that tugged at my heartstrings. Our mission was to repair the sidewalks, re-do a roof, and completely re-build a shack from the ground up.  All of this was to be done in five days. The work was tedious, but the benefits from which we reaped made the blood, sweat, and tears all worth while. We were transforming the lives of the residents; Mrs. Jones who had not left her bed for ten years would finally be able to walk down the path to visit her neighbors. The feeling of elation flowed through my veins each day cognizant that I was helping to better lives, while building my character. The Bahamas is a world all in its own, and if I got the chance to go back and abet, I wouldn’t think twice. I would be on a plane over with a blink of an eye. Bahamas here I come!
