World Youth Day; Sydney Australia; July 15,2008; location cement. As I sat amongst hundreds of thousands of people from all around the world, despite our different cultures, I truly felt like I belonged. it was amazing to have the knowledge that people from such different backgrounds shared the same faith as me and to know we all traveled for one reason, to meet Pope Benedict XVI.
As I got up and wandered around with an American flag in my hand, I saw people of many different colors, shapes, and sizes. They were all so proud, as was I, to be representing what we stood for. I met a group of five men from Sudan who desperately wanted to take a picture with me so they could show it to their families at home. As I veiwed the screen of his digital camera my heart felt overwhelmed, I was so proud to touch someone’s life and make them smile frm ear to ear. I work extremely hard to make a positive impact on whoever I meet and to accomplish my goals. To know I did that by a click of a button had me in awe.
The day grew into night as thousands of candels were lit. Anxiety rose in our hearts as 50,000 people knelt on the ground an waited to meet the closest living human to God. As the Pope entered, a single tear shed from my eye. At that very moment I gave my whole self completely to God. I grew so dramatically, spiritually and meantally. I knew what I lived for; I was challenged by God to fulfill my goals in life. He puts me through obstacles so I can learn from my mistakes, overcome my fears and strive for excellence. With his help and my determination I will never fail. That night I matured as a young woman and was reassured I could accomplish anything that is thrown at me, wether it be easy or difficult. I truly got intouch with my inner core.
