Vacation in Carpathian Mountains - My Family Travels

Nature’s Beauty

The sun was shining on my face. I could feel my cheek burning, but it felt so good that I did not want to move. The road was getting bumpy as we approached our destination. I had to be patient because I knew that exciting moments were coming. As I looked through the window, I was amazed by the beauty of nature.  Big fields of sunflowers, tall, skinny, green stems with big yellow heads, and black seeds in the center, formed a long yellow line fading away into the blue sky, like the Ukrainian flag.

When we got to the village, I could not wait to see what else there was to discover. As I unpacked my bags, I heard  chirping. I ran to the window, and on the oak tree, I saw a bird. The singing was so beautiful that it made me feel welcomed. To the left of the tree was a little, noisy, crystal clean waterfall splashing into the lake. I wondered if the water was cold, but right away I got my answer when I saw people swimming and diving into the lake. I felt like joining them, but when I heard a loud growling noise in my stomach, I decided to eat first.

As I walked outside to find my mom, I smelt something pleasant and savory . I followed the scent and found my mom and aunt making lunch. I ate so much food, I could barely move. My body told me to take a nap, but my mind was ready to explore the nature of the Carpathian Mountains, the Green Pearl of Ukraine.

The three of us, my two cousins and I, were ready to begin our journey in the mountains. We had never been here before, so everything seemed as if we were in a fairyland: the trees, tall as giants, with green bushy crowns, swung and whistled at every blow of the wind; thousands of birds made a chorus and filled the air with different melodies; the blue-tinted mountains with their rolling peaks, made the scenery

picturesque and mysterious; and finally, dozens of metal, stone, and hanging bridges  looked like flying rocks. We were impressed and fascinated.

The rivers – some wide and deep, rough and noisy with waterfalls, and others very shallow with little sand islands in the middle – attracted our attention. We noticed a lot of fish of all sizes, and we decided to catch them. We tried hard, got wet to the skin, but were not lucky enough to catch even one, unlike the boys who had full baskets of them. Anyway, it was worth trying for fun.

Another activity we engaged ourselves with was climbing the rocks. They were not an easy nut to crack. But we got up high, and standing on them, we could breathe the unique fresh air and look down on lively rivers pushing their waters through rocks that were huge and bulky. In between the peaks of the mountains, were the valleys, full of cute log houses and cabins buzzing with tourists from everywhere. The wide emerald-green meadows, with azure-blue eye-shaped lakes, amazed my heart and soul and inspired calmness and peace of mind.

The trip to the Carpathian Mountains was also a useful way to improve our health. The entire area was full of mineral water springs. Beech and pine forests, as well as agreeably warm weather, benefited us with good rest and pleasure. Visiting various cultural and historical sights in the Carpathian area enriched our knowledge and made us even more proud of our beautiful country.
