The wind was like a thin, wispy veil setting chill bumps on the surface of my skin. My feet sank deep into the gritty, warm sand forming to every minute crevice as the ocean’s tides crept slowly forward. Its touch was wintry and met me like frozen ice cream on a scorching summer day. The sky was vividly painted in an assorted array of colors: orange, yellow, pink, blue, and a slight touch of lilac. The sun had awakened and was leisurely peeking over the long horizon. The surrounding sounds lured me into a hypnotizing state of mind. I stood in awe of the beauty, gradually closed my eyes, and inhaled the enticing aromas filling the air. This was the place I had anticipated being for an entire year, Cape Canaveral Beach in Florida.
My entire family attended this vacation, with the exception of my eldest brother, Philip. The twenty four total hours I spent with my family in the van to and from Florida was an experience in itself! We watched various movies, read a couple of books and even got some sleep. On the very first morning, my sister, Grace, and I witnessed a spectacular sunrise on the beach. We brought our lawn chairs and laid there mesmerized by the stillness of time, the rhythmic sound of the waves, the soothing painted sky, and the perfectly peaceful environment. It was mind boggling to try to understand all the beauty that was appearing and its awesome Creator. The scene was flawless, idyllic, and absorbed my every thought. About an hour after the sun rose, the rest of my family joined us. It was a splendid time to be together in such an immensely beautiful time of the day.
Throughout the afternoons, we enjoyed various activities such as: building sand castles, playing soccer in the sand, tanning, reading books, fellowshipping, and ending a day on the beach with crab hunting. My mom and dad enjoyed being lazy on the boogie boards floating out into the vast ocean. My sister and I took a walk out to the Jette Park pier. We saw medium sized sea turtles, large sting rays, raccoons crawling on the rocks, and fish jumping out of the water. Lee, my brother, was thrilled to find some people to play soccer with on the beach.
Truthfully this trip changed my outlook on nature completely. Typically, I am not the type of person to observe my environment in such detail, but after seeing this striking sun rise, I made a 180 degree turn around. I appreciate nature and its beauty more that I could have ever imagined. Nature is a God given magnificence that we should not take for granted. Each day is another time that God paints on His canvas to leave us in awe. My trip made countless family memories and gave me a new admiration for the scenery of Cape Canaveral Beach.
