This being my senior year in high school, the Wasatch HIgh School Wind Ensemble and Drumline traveled to Anaheim, California to perform in Disney Land. We used a tour bus to arrive at our destination. On our way to California we stopped in Las Vegas, Nevada to see ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ at the Vennetian Hotel and to experience The Strip! During our travels we learned to deal with all different types of people, good and bad. I personally had a great experience throughout the whole thing! I was fortunate enough to see numerous examples of musical talent including ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ and a street drummer that astounded me! We were fortunate enough to travel to some awesome places all throughout California such as Six Flags and Hollywood. I believe that only thing that I was unhappy with was our band director. He is a very talented musician but I personally think that he is a bad people person. For example he would try to force his beliefs upon members of the band. We were walking down The Strip and he insisted on moving as fast as we could because Las Vegas is a “Devil Town”. I don’t necessarily agree with everything that goes on in that town but I think that he should have allowed us to make our own evaluation of Las Vegas. The same thing happened in Hollywood, he made it seem like the only people that lived there were either snobby movie stars or drug dealers, I don’t think that right. Besides that though I truly had an amazing experience and I hope that i can have numerous more like it.
