Put down your jackets and soak up the sun in exotic Cozumel, Mexico! Last February, my family and I traveled to Cozumel on the Carnival Fantasy Cruise Line. We embarked from the Port of Mobile in Mobile, Alabama, and set sail for a memorable five day-four night vacation. Little did I know that I would see the world from a new perspective.

The Carnival Fantasy Cruise Line specializes in family-fun entertainment, ranging from swimming pool activities on the Lido deck to miniature golfing on the top Sun deck. Every night, staff members bring Broadway to the seas by performing theatrical productions that are enjoyable for the whole family. Bingo games and ping pong competitions occur daily, offering guests opportunities to win valuable prizes. The Carnival Fantasy boasts of their onboard water park, WaterWorks, which presents several large waterslides and splash zones. A key tip is to arrive when WaterWorks opens; otherwise, you will wait in long lines during the day. My family spent much of our time in the karaoke lounge, where dozens of guests are invited to sing to their hearts’ content.
Have you ever wanted food whenever you want and whatever you want without having to wait in long lines? Fortunately, quality and quantity of foods are top priorities on the Carnival Fantasy. The buffets on the Lido deck serve all types of cuisine continuously throughout the day, providing the perfect midnight snack of pizza and ice cream for adventurous guests. Guests are welcome to dine in the Celebration, where my family dined, or the Jubilee dining rooms during select breakfast, lunch, and dinner hours for a decadent spread of five-course meals. You must try the Baked Alaska for dessert, but skip the Caviar for dinner! From endless lobster and steak to abundant cakes and pies, the Carnival Fantasy meets all expectations of a world-class traveler.
Not only does the Carnival Fantasy provide exploration on the seas, the cruise also gives its guests the option of exciting shore excursions. While the ship docks at the port in Cozumel, guests have the entire day to experience all the tropical city has to offer. Carnival Cruise Lines recommends all types of excursions for Cozumel on the company’s website: www.carnival.com/ShoreExcursionDetails. My family booked our adventure through the website and chose the Deluxe Sail, Snorkel & Beach Party package. This excursion allows guests to snorkel in the crystal blue water of Mexico and provides an opportunity to intimately swim with the colorful marine life. A catamaran transports guests to a private island where waterslides, water trampolines, and rock climbing walls are available. With Cozumel having a moderately hot climate, the catamaran staff provides sodas for their guests; however, my family brought some crackers for a midmorning snack. The entire excursion lasts four hours, which allowed my family to eat lunch on the Carnival Fantasy.
After the excursion, my family toured Cozumel by shopping at local jewelry shops and clothing stores, such as Ron Jon Surf Shop and Viva Mexico. Residents of Cozumel are very friendly; they even encourage guests to dance in the streets for a city dance party. From purple tanzanite jewelry to Mexican sombreros, Cozumel presents a festive atmosphere for the entire family. As my family and I walked back to the Carnival Fantasy, I realized how traveling different parts of the world can make people appreciate others for their backgrounds and lifestyles. Sometimes I forget to accept other people’s culture and fail to notice the excitement of trying new experiences. Cozumel, Mexico is truly a place to let go of all stereotypes and learn from the cultural surroundings.
