Where will this summer take me? Maybe I’ll take a dive off the waterfalls of Jamaica where the there is “no problem man”; maybe I’ll visit the Big Apple and climb to the top of the statue of liberty and see how big the city is from a birds eye view; Or maybe I’ll go to Canada and try some Canadian Bacon eh. But in reality: “Like I say every year, I’ll go to Jamaica next summer” ;“Oh, is that how much it cost to go to NYC , but yesterday that price was two hundred dollars less” ; “ I don’t need a passport to go to Canada, but I do need one to get into the United States” Considering these circumstances I think it would be to my greatest interest to have a stay-cation.
“Welcome to Florida the Sunshine State: home of the Gators, Seminoles and Hurricanes. There are variety of amazing places I could visit in Florida – like going to Disney World or visiting colleges – but nothing beats hanging out with my buds. This summer was the social highlight of my life . I hung out at the mall, went bowling, saw a majority of this summer’s movies , started some opportunities for leadership, volunteered in a yard sale, accomplished some of my childhood dreams and read one book.
“Best friends are like peeing on yourself, everyone can see it but only you can feel the warmth.” I went to Coral Springs Mall , which I’ve been to practically a million times but this time was different than all the others; it was the first time I’ve ever went with my best friend Katelin. Other than that I was happy that we’d finally had some girl to girl time, because every-time time she invited me somewhere her boyfriend would magically appear; I don’t like being a third wheel. So this time I invited her some where with the ultimatum of “no boys allowed”. We walked through the whole mall, which is about one sixteenth of Disney World, and ate at my favorite Japanese restaurant then we came upon the the most majestic thing in my eyes, a photo booth! I’ve never and I mean never taken a picture in a photo booth for two reasons: I didn’t have money at the time or I didn’t have anyone special enough I’d want to take a picture with; lets just say it was my lucky day. A rectangular prism never looked so good!
I discovered that I have a method, the Melyse Method. Well, you see a stay-cation doesn’t make me immune to having to babysit my niece. I love my niece but it was quiet dreadful to babysit her around nap-time. My niece fighting nap time was like a category five hurricane, we knew what was coming and we were all prepared for hell to break loose; therefore the Melyse Method was created: First I wait for one o’clock to come around because Sesame Street comes on Sprout and other children networks like PBS Kids ; then I give my niece a warm bottle and we watch the TV program to her hearts content and finally she falls asleep.
Sometimes it takes going no where to discover the basal joys of your everyday life. So by staying home for the summer I learned more about me, my friends, and my family. “You have succeeded in life when all you really want is only what you really need” ~ Vernon Howard.
