During the summer of 2006 my Expecting mother, youngest brother (at the time), and I
Took a beautiful Trip to the Bahamas’ . at first I didn’t want to go I mean I guess I was like any other 13 year old. I wanted to play outside with my friends and have fun. Not go to some Island. I complained and complained and complained until I saw the plane I would be flying in. it was a big white Jet blue plane and as much as I tried to fight it. I had to admit seeing and being on that plane was pretty cool. When it took off and I could no longer see the ground or the people on it. I became overwhelmed with excitement.
I was going to the Bahamas for a family reunion and to be honest. I was ever excited to see what the other side of my family would be like. American Teen meets laid back Island folk. It sounded like a lot of fun when my mother spoke about it, but when I got there part of my mood changed. My other side was nothing like me at all. They made jokes that I didn’t understand, they ate food that I didn’t think was edible at all. They even spoke way different then I…even though it was English it was still not what I was used to. While I was there we went to island called Andros it took us 1 full night on a boat to get there. Out of the whole trip being on that boat was the most horrifying experience. I had seen TV shows about people that spent nights on boats and the spirits that haunted them, but while I was panicking the rest of the family surprisingly were having a good time. The adults sat with the adults and played card games and told lewd jokes to each other. The children would play with the crabs that were in the cages and chase them around on the boat. My mother had told me to try to make the most of it and not to worry for my uncle had sailed boats many time before. That however was easier said then done. When we finally made it to Andros we were greeted by more members of my family. We drove to the motel rooms that were casually near the beach. I thought that if any part of this trip would be normal it would be the rooms. I was wrong . When my mother opened the doors the first thing I saw was the spider webs in the corners of the ceiling. For anyone who is anyone. you already know that 13 year old girl plus spiders and spider webs don’t mix AT ALL. The trip itself had made me proud of what I am and where I came from. The Bahamas’ was nice and it was very pleasing but I am an American girl. I plan to some day go back to the Bahamas’ maybe when I get a bit older then maybe I will be able to enjoy it as much as my mother does. All in all it was a very rich family reunion, and when I say rich I mean in terms of how I look at the world. My cousins and aunts as strange as they may have been. Taught me at the young age of 13 that sometimes in order to get the finer things in life. Sometimes all one may need is some coconuts ,a straw, and grilled lobster.
