With my eyes closed I blocked out the other tourists and focused in on the deafening, yet somehow refreshing noise of the gushing waters. It was a little before eight A.M. I had never noticed how bright the sun was by that time, although it may just have been Canada, but, more likely, it was due to my ignorance of the outside world and the beauty in it. How can such a view as that of the sun hitting the sparkling water and the fresh looking grass around it even be remotely natural? When I think of nature, I automatically think of the browning trees, the ashy air, and the plethora of insects that enjoy biting me on my family’s semi-annual camping trip to Northern California or the bordering state of Arizona. Now I realize that the difference between the two beautiful areas is the amount of work that we as humans put into keeping them clean. Niagara Falls, one of the Natural Wonders of the World, opened my eyes to how nature should be when we truly take care of it. With the kind of care that we give Natural Wonders, I hope future generations will also be able to experience the overcoming sense of relief and relaxation I felt that day.

Even though I had had little sleep and an uncomfortable week away from home, away from my bed, sleeping on my aunt’s floor, the moment I truly focused in on the beautiful waterfall all my troubles and aches seemed to escape me. It was like staring at fire. Being mesmerized by the awe striking beauty of the waterfall gives a person a chance to realize the loveliness that there is in the universe and I would never want that to be lost for future generations. I don’t know why, but that day I discovered that the sheltered world I lived in did not encompass the true phenomena found hidden throughout the world. The transcendental feelings that the picturesque scenery evoked can’t be found through television or through a simple picture, but only by stepping on that ground and feeling the mist on your face and tasting the water on your lips.
