Early this summer I went to Rocky Point, Mexico with my best friend and her family. It was a pretty exciting vacation; we were going to spend a week in a beach house at Las Conchas relaxing after graduation. One would expect me to be ecstatic about this wonderful opportunity to relax after a hard senior year. However, my mother recently passed away before graduation. I made the best to look as excited in front of my friend. When we arrived in Mexico, I was amazed at the beautiful ocean view in my room. The view not only took my breath away, it made me happy to be here for a week. The first night, I made a promise to myself that this vacation would be dedicated to my mother.

My best friend Sarah and I spent the mornings and afternoons on our own adventures on the beach. This ranged from looking at all of the amazing sea creatures such as dolphins, crabs, fish and starfish; to walking down the beach to recall our memories of high school while looking for shells. Sarah and I had our long talks about our future as college freshmen; there were even moments when we would remember times when my mother would make crazy jokes. When the sun went down eah night, everyone would go outside to look at the beautiful sunset and just be thankful for having the opportunity to be with family and friends. Each sunset would remind me of my mother; it was hard for me to imagine my life without the person who always believed in me no matter what I did with my life. However, with each day that passed on in Rocky Point; I also realized that I am not alone in this world.

Sarah and her family made it their goal to make sure that this was an exciting vacation for me. In the end, the vacation was not only fun and relaxing; the experience with Sarah is something I will never forget. That week showed me how to move on from a bump in life. It was exactly what I needed before my summer break comes to an end. Now, I know that my mother is proud of all of my accomplishments; and when there are days when I feel like giving up, there will always be people who love me to keep my eye on the prize.
