The Biggest Mistake - My Family Travels

Unlike many teenagers, I had only seen the ocean once. So, when my friend offered to take me on a vacation to Florida, my answer was of course, yes. Along with an all expense paid vacation to Florida, my friend told me we would be going to Disney, and also Universal Studios. I had always wanted to go there. She told me that we would be staying at a condo on the beach. This may seem like a dream come true, but it soon went horribly wrong.

It all started with the car ride there. My friend's mother had told my mother that when we stopped for food on the way there, she would pay for me. Well, that only happened twice. No matter how hard my friend and I tried, we could not get her mother to pull over. Not only was I starving and my bladder bursting, but the arguing between my friend and her mother only got worse as we got closer to Florida.

When we finally arrived, more things started to go wrong. When we attempted to check into our condo, they told us it wasn't ready yet, so we sat and waited in the main lobby. When they looked up our last name, they tried to tell us that we were two weeks early and that another family had rented out the condo. Naturally, my friend's mother fell into a panic since we had nowhere to stay. As we sat in the lobby I overheard the clerk speaking in Spanish, (I was able to understand them, since I had been taking Spanish for five years and was inducted into the Spanish Honors Society). As it turned out, they had made a mistake, booking two families for the same condo, then trying to fix the problem by sending us home. I informed my friend's mother of this and she got up and demanded not just any condo, but the one we had paid for. We had finally ended up in our condo, but things only became more disastrous.

I was only thinking of one thing, that beautiful ocean. I wanted to go to the beach that was supposedly right outside our condo. I asked my friend to go to the beach with me. She responded by saying we would drive there the next day, but that she was tired at that moment in time. I was confused as to why we would have to drive if the beach was right outside the condo. She said that she had lied, and that the beach was actually two hours away!

My friend's grandmother lives in Florida and was the one taking us to Disney and Universal Studios. First we went to Disney's Animal Kingdom. Unfortunately, she had been to Disney so many times she'd already seen everything and rushed us through the entire park within two hours! It was the same way for Magic Kingdom. We never got to go to Universal Studios; her grandma decided she didn't feel like taking us there. So my next couple days were spent in a small pool outside of the condo. For some strange reason, my friend and her mother didn't even care to go outside. There we were in a nice, hot, sunny, state, and they were sitting indoors watching CSI on television, while back in New York there was a snow storm. Also, instead of staying up late and having fun, my friend was going to bed when it was still light out! On top of everything else, they were yelling at each other constantly. I couldn't take it anymore, so I called my mother, asked her to come get me, and I ended up home a full week early.

This was the worst vacation of my life. Over seven months have gone by and I still don't talk to that friend. I hope to never have such a bad vacation again.
