Fun in Colorado Springs - My Family Travels

This summer my family and I spent several days in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I strongly recommend going there if you are looking for a fun, exciting vacation or just some time to relax. Colorado Springs has something for everyone. One of the best features of the Springs is its weather. Coming from Texas, seventy degrees for the high temperature in summer is unheard of, but not in Colorado Springs.

Another great feature is there is something fun and interesting for everyone. Of course there is Pikes Peak.  You can drive, hike or take a cog train to the top.  The top has breath taking views.  This is where Katharine Lee Bates was inspired to write “American the Beautiful”   While my family was there my dad especially enjoyed going to the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The Hill Climb is a race up Pikes Peak and whoever “climbs” the mountain the fastest in their class of vehicle wins. The race includes every kind of car you can think of, ATVs and motorcycles.

One of the things I really enjoyed was going to the Garden of the Gods. It is a series of paved and unpaved walking and biking trails through the most marvelous giant red rocks, and the best part is it's all free, there isn’t any admission price to the park.  Now after a day full of climbing Pikes Peak and hiking or biking through the Garden of the Gods you’re going to be pretty hungry, so I would recommend going to a restaurant called Goodtimes. This is just a local chain that serves the best all natural hamburgers you ever ate. They are very easy to find since there are several locations in the Springs.

The most fun and exciting thing that I highly recommend doing is going on a white water rafting trip. You are in a rubber raft with 5 other people and a guide in a river that is flowing slowly in some places and very quickly in other.  The slow places give you a chance to catch your breath for the exciting fast moving rapids.  Oh, and did I mention the water is ice cold because it is the melted snow from the mountain.  There are different level of rapids, for example class I and II would be for beginners or people that are not looking for too much excitement.  Class III, IV and V would be for experienced rafters or those looking for high excitement and adventure.

In conclusion, I would like to say that if you are considering Colorado Springs as a place for your summer vacation you have picked the right place.
