Seniors Becoming Wise
In the Art of Traveling
Four seniors who do not stand out among their friends were able to pull off something that none of them thought would go so well.

Day 1
June 27th, 2011
Destination: San Francisco, CA
Time of departure: 6:30a.m
Time of arrival: 11:00a.m
First stop: Marina Inn on Lombard St.

On the start of a much analyzed adventure, the four of us divided up the $350 each person brought. Money was put into four envelopes that read: Gas, Cambria, Emergency Fund, and extra food. The budgets for each of these were determined earlier. This was a great idea!!! I will always remember this for all my trips.

Other than a couple visits with my aunt and uncle there, we were adult free! Our free ranged adventure on this day took place at Coit Tower and all over North Beach.

Day 2 of San Francisco
June 28th, 2011
     Destination: Alcatraz
Funny fact: On this day San Francisco set a record for it’s rain fall and we had no umbrellas or ponchos.

I learned : bring “getting soaked” weather gear!

The fantastic and award winning auto tour taught us SO much! The voices of the prisoners and officers along with the sound affects widened our knowledge and made you jump at times . That night we had your pockets happily emptied at Fisherman’s Wharf. I couldn’t believe so much fun could be had without adult protection.

Beginning of day three before we left San Francisco.
GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE
Pictures speak a thousand words. We have to do this again

Continuing Day 3
June 29th, 2011
Destination:Cambria
Time of departure:2:30p.m

Time of arrival:7:00p.mi

First stop: Washburn Primitive, San Smeon, CAWe thought we would of left the wrath in the big city. Today we were kicked out of our campsite twice before learning our true campsite, and had a lot of trouble making dinner. Our bellies stopped yelling 10:30p.m.

I learned: to know the site number before we arrive.

Day 4 – still in Cambria
June 30th, 2011
Destination: Moonstone Beach

Day 5
July 1st, 2011
Destination:Balch Park
Time of departure: 10:00am
Time of arrival: 2:00p.m
First stop: Balch park, CA

Today we relaxed and bathed naturally in the melted snow at the Hidden Falls
I learned: that’s COLD!

Day 6
July 2nd, 2011
Destination: Bakersfield, CA (home)

We noticed on our way home that all our planning worked, and it was only made by four now wise seniors.

Once I got home and saw my family, I realized none of them had been beside me on this trip like they‘d always been. I felt like a different and bigger person with a strong power in my walk. I was filled will the value of the places I’d been for this trip changed my life.

How did you save up the money for the trip?  Sounds like you had a great time, and i love the way you decided to save some emergency money.  Great idea.
