From Fright To Flight | My Family Travels

If your heart tells you to try something new, never ignore it because it might as well be more than what you wanted. To start off an adventurous summer vacation, my family and I took the advantage of the warm weather and headed out on a trip to Lake George, NY which is situated in the Adirondack Mountains. There is a huge variety and selection of things to do.

After checking into Tahoe Resorts, the fun had begun. To start the adventure, my family and I decided to go parasailing. Parasailing is when one glides through the air wearing an open parachute while being towed by a motorboat. I had never tried anything like this before, so it was a whole new experience for me. When we reached the parasailing booth, my brother and I stood on the dock, looking out at the people who were already parasailing. We had taken this decision to go but now it felt too dangerous. Both of us felt like backing out but it was too late.

The wait to go parasailing was for about an hour. In that hour, we sat and watched the people fly into the sky and get dropped into the lake. As our time neared, we got more and more frightened. When the boat pulled into the dock, I felt like my heart had stopped. The captain of the boat told us to get into the boat and put on our life jackets. We were told all the instructions of what to do. Along with my brother, my cousins, and I, there was another family that were going to go parasailing.

The captain started the engine of the motorboat and started to take us out into the middle of the lake where we would meet up with another boat and switch passengers. The passengers on the other boat had already gone parasailing and it was our turn next. It took about 10 minutes to get to the middle of the lake and switch. The wind felt amazing in my face. That feeling of relax was changed to fear in a split second. When we got into the “parachute boat”, as they called it, my brother and I were the first ones to go. They gave us equipment to wear and attached us to the parachute. We had to sit legs crossed on the surface of the boat. When we were ready, the captain’s assistant let the parachute go free and fly into the air. My brother and I were screaming when he let the string of the parachute go. However, when we got to the top, the view was breathtaking. The parachute moved very slowly compared to the speed of the motorboat. I felt as if I was in paradise. We could see the whole lake and everything that surrounded the lake from the top. It was like a bird’s eye’s view of Lake George. People that were in their beach houses surrounding the lake, saw us flying in the air and waved at us. Nothing could be better than this. While reeling us back in, with the click of a button, we were dropped into the lake. The drop and cold water felt amazing.

Parasailing was a great way to start off the vacation. We got to experience fright and get over it as well. We got to see all of Lake George in a matter of 20 minutes. Whenever you feel scared but want to do something, always go for it because it might be a whole different experience. It might be something that you never expected.
