My Family was Blown Away by the Windy City - My Family Travels

A few days after school got out my family headed to the windy city and to our surprise the wind was not the only thing that blew us away. The attractions kept us amazed each and every day we were in Chicago, Illinois. Although my dad and I were excited about going to our thirteenth and fourteenth Major League Baseball Stadiums, my sister and mom were excited about the American Girl Doll store. With many sites to see and only a few days to do so my family headed out on our annual family vacation.

As my family awaited the sites to come we endured the ten hour drive to Chicago, Illinois. We normally drive on family vacations due to the fact that my mom does not like flying. Shortly after we arrived in Chicago we soon realized that the weather contrasted the heat that was pounding our hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi. A combination of the wind and rain made the trip comfortable considering the sweltering heat we were used to in Mississippi.

Although the rain kept the temperature to a comfortable medium we were worried the weather might come into play as we visited some of our many attractions. Items of interest included Wrigley Field, Navy Pier, and the Chicago Zoo. All of these attractions could be affected by Mother Nature and possibly ruin our entire trip. To our surprise weather only played a role in the Chicago Cubs game which we were only able to see six innings of baseball. However the weather was not the only interesting development that occurred during our trip.

The next day after the Chicago Cubs was cut short due to rain we went to the Chicago Zoo to see some animals. The zoo had attractions ranging from koalas to kangaroos and birds to bears. As our day was coming to close we were exiting the bird house which was home to hundreds of freely flying feathery friends and a surprise fell from the heavens.  We soon realized that a bird had left a present on my shirt that too say the least was not pretty and not your typical present. Although this was a funny aspect of our trip in the end, it was not very funny at first impact.

To our surprise this incident was not the end our Chicago trip’s misfortunes. The following day my mom and sister were going to eat lunch at the American Girl Doll Restaurant as my dad and I were headed the U.S. Cellular Field to watch a White Sox game. As my dad and I were taking pictures of the Chicago Tribune building my dad looked in his wallet and realized the tickets were no longer in there. After we backtracked our steps, called my mom, and checked the hotel we were unable to find the tickets and my hopes of going to another Major League Baseball stadium were looking slim. However soon after my dad came to the conclusion that the tickets were nowhere to be found he assured me we would buy some new tickets and still attend the baseball game.

This will be a vacation I will always remember despite weather prematurely ending a baseball game, a bird pooping on my shirt, and my dad losing the Chicago White Sox tickets all in the span of five days. Even though this trip involved some of the craziest misfortunes that have ever occurred on any of our family vacations I enjoyed the entirety of the excursion more than any other trip I have taking through my present eighteen years of life.
