Imagine blue skies, clear water, and white sandy beaches. Have you ever been somewhere that you can just sooth yourself in the warm cool air? The island of the Dominican Republic gave me that wonderful experience. The cool breeze was like a hand running through your hair; the rays from the sun felt like the warmth of a blanket. There is no better place that could make you feel more alive.
Staying in the Dominican Republic was like purification to my soul. It made me realize who I was and where I wanted to be. I didn’t have to worry about any problems in the environment. Everything was nice and quiet. Nature never really stood out to me until now. Standing on top of the mountains made me feel like a tyrant, like I couldn’t be touched. Looking down from the mountaintops to the ocean floor was a beautiful sight to see. Hearing the wildlife in the background was a symphony to my ears.
Imagine being on top of the world with no one to bring you down, that’s how I felt in the Dominican Republic. I was able to be myself and find who I was as a person. The people there were nice and friendly; usually you don’t see that. I regret leaving because I was able to meet a family who was living in poverty. I gave them everything that I had because the poverty in America is nothing like the poverty in the Dominican Republic. Listening to them commend me with their thanks made me feel so good about myself. I never felt so special in my life.
Nothing is more astounding than a place filled with joy and love. It was like swimming in a clear ocean without any fish and being able to see everything before your eyes. Think of being able to look past the mountains and beyond the blue skies. That is the feeling you get when you are in the Dominican Republic. Nature is a powerful sensation and will give you a healthier understanding of how it feels to be free mentally.
The Dominican Republic is not just some island in our social social studies book. It is more than an island. It is a foundation. It is a place where you can enjoy the better things in life by simply watching the waves of the ocean jumping towards you. I care about this island as if it was my first car. I can say there is no other place that can compare to the Dominican Republic.
